Stanley Tucci discusses The Hunger Games

WSJ recently caught up with Stanley Tucci where he talked about The Hunger Games, Gary Ross and feeling hopeful about Francis Lawrence.  See excerpt from the interview below.

The Wall Street Journal: What kind of response have you gotten since “Hunger Games” came out? Do you have lots of new young fans?

Stanley Tucci: Without question…. It’s a newer demographic only because the kids who are seeing it now, a lot of them hadn’t seen “The Devil Wears Prada” because they were too young. It’s a similar age but different people. I never anticipate it would be like that. It was my fiancee who said, “you should do this.” I said, “Really?” She said, “Stanley, these books are so successful and they are really good.”

What do “Hunger Games” fans say to you?

My kids play soccer, and you see that the kids on the other team are sort of like, “What’s that guy doing here? Why is he here?” I think they think that you don’t do all the normal stuff. It’s really great. I’m very proud to be in the movie. It was a great experience. It was really one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.

I liked the story a lot. I liked what it has to say for socio-political reasons. I like the fact that the lead character is this incredible, strong young woman. I love Gary Ross.

What are your thoughts on the “Hunger Games” getting a new director, Francis Lawrence?

I’m sad that Gary is not doing it. But I hear this fella is really great. Hopefully Gary will come back and do another one. I [start shooting] the next Hunger Games in October some time.
